- For information on the world that Charlotte travels through after being in the locked in the Locker Room, please go here.
The Dreamscape is an area that appears to those who have an Oracle artificially inside of them. It is also called a Mind Library once orderly.
General[]
The Dreamscape is first accessible when Charlotte goes to sleep on Day 1 of Hello Charlotte 2. At first it is chaotic and dark, with the rotting corpse of the Oracle at the center of the room. Frei eventually takes form here, and sits on the corpse. The next night, Frei converts the Dreamscape into a Mind Library by making Charlotte's mind more orderly.
On the night before the Trial, the Mind Library lies in shambles with more elements of the dying Oracle coming into play. In addition, the colors are much brighter. When the Dreamscape/Mind Library is entered during the Trial in the White Ending, it is completely destroyed and is a harsh red color.
The Mind Library is revisited in Hello Charlotte 3, when Scarlett is injected with the Oracle Parasite. Her Mind Library is bears a striking resemblance to Charlotte's library, although it has more of a red color scheme. It is here that Scarlett communicates with the Parasite in her dreams.
Story[]
Hello Charlotte 2[]
The Dreamscape appears on Day 1 after Charlotte has fallen asleep. Frei appears to Charlotte here, and in the first moments has trouble speaking and assuming a concrete form. He and Charlotte talk about Scarlett Eyler's suicide within the Dreamscape, until Charlotte is woken up by the Umbrella Man. Charlotte returns the Dreamscape after talking with him, and Frei explains his ending to the Tale of the Ink and Paper Princess. She falls asleep as he explains this story, showing that it is possible to fall asleep within the Dreamscape, and Frei directly addresses the Puppeteer, calling Charlotte an unreliable narrator.
On Day 2, Frei rearranges the Dreamscape into a Mind Library and allows Charlotte to read two memory books. One from a blue book, titled "How I Met Aiden", and another from a red book, titled "How I Met Bennett and Huxley."
It is discovered in Hello Charlotte 3 that these memories are merely memories that are implanted into every Charlotte unit, and not actually things that occurred to Charlotte herself.
End of spoilers.
After Charlotte finishes reading all the memories, Frei offers her to join him in reading. If she accepts his offer, he will explain the story of Hades and Persephone to her and suggest that Persephone captured Hades rather than the other way around. Charlotte falls asleep before hearing Frei finish this story.
On Day 6, Frei appears again in Charlotte's dreams, and the two play the piano in the Mind Library. Charlotte asks Frei if the ink the Paper Princess became drenched in was poisonous, to which Frei responds yes. He asserts that to love is to give up your ego for another, and tells Charlotte it's time for her to wake up.
On Day 25, Charlotte is reluctant to go to sleep after strangling Frei when he made fun of her for refusing C's offer. He tells her that he has been cleaning up her mind, as she has lamented how foggy her mind grew over the years in her memory journals. He tells her that she will son realize that her world is not worth staying in, and wishes her sweet dreams. This is done right after Charlotte tells C that they could hide in the "fog" together, away from the contamination of their world.
The Mind Library lies in shambles on the night Before the Trial. Frei decides to offer Charlotte two memory journals, "Memory of a yellow ribbon" or "Memory of a graveyard." If Charlotte picks the "Memory of a Yellow Ribbon", Frei will also read "A Memory of My First Dress" to her. If she chooses the memory of the graveyard, Frei will ask Charlotte about the kinds of dreams she had before he appeared.
It is unknown if these memories are implanted like the first two were in Hello Charlotte 3. It may be reasonable to assume they are, as a younger version of Charlotte doesn't appear to exist (as her existence starts the moment the first game does).
End of spoilers.
White Ending[]
A even more dismantled Dreamscape is revisited in the White Ending, when C and Charlotte are voted as Defective. Charlotte enters her destroyed Mind Library and tells Frei that she wants to save everyone she cares about, and Frei chastises her for caring so much about people who weren't there for her. Charlotte tells Frei that he is a manifestation of all of her destructive impulses, and that she couldn't love herself in the very end. Frei allows Charlotte to consume him, and Charlotte ends up consuming everyone's egos.
Hello Charlotte 3[]
After Felix injects the Oracle into Scarlett, she enters the Mind Library with the Parasite, who has presumably created this Mind Library. This isn't certain however, as the Parasite does seem somewhat surprised at being in a Mind Library ("What do we have here? A cute little mind library.) The Parasite repremands Scarlett for allowed V19 to be so harshly bullied, and decides to allow Scarlett to speak in the dream world, implying it has control over it. Scarlett asserts her desire to understand V19, and tell the Parasite to keep quiet so that she can go to sleep and focus on her goals.
The next dream occurs after Scarlett travels to the Word Sea, where the Parasite tells Scarlett that if she continues to refuse its help she will continue to die. It remarks that Scarlett isn't as perfect as she seems, and leaves her responsibilities to her Puppeteer. Despite this, it accepts her the way she is.
After Scarlett travels to the TV World, the Parasite appears in her Mind Library once more. It asks Scarlett if she wants to kill V19, and calls Scarlett a killjoy when Scarlett refuses to fall for its provocation. The Parasite makes fun of Scarlett's desire to become a savior, and notes that she is running out of time.
When Scarlett wakes up after going through Eden, Scarlett tells the Parasite that the world is bigger than she ever imagined, and she wants to write a journal on the truths of their world. The Parasite lets Scarlett's hair down, and Scarlett tells the Parasite to let her rest in their Dreamscape. This is the last time the Mind Library is ever seen.
Memories[]
How I Met Aiden[]
Blue Book
- I was nine.
- It was during Christmas, when I hid under the sofa in order to catch the Santa Claus with a rope and a bottle of chloroform.
- The one who came through the fireplace wasn't St Nicholas, but a horned creature instead.
- "Come out, mischievous one, I can see you!" he called. Unwillingly, I had to comply, hiding the chloroform behind my back.
- "...you're not Santa Claus." I declared, a bit disappointed.
- "I am widely known by the name of Krampus." the beast answered, proud of himself.
- "...so Santa won't come." I sighed, sulking even more.
- "Santa Claus brings gifts to good children only. I come to punish those who misbehaved." the beast continued.
- "But I'm a good girl." I declared confidently.
- "And may I ask why do you think this way?" "Mom says so."
- "Even though she barely sees you, how can she make that statement?" "Mom's always right."
- "She also says not to talk to strangers." "I added, pouting.
- In a swift movement, I brough a chloroform-soaked towel to the creature's face. Seconds later he was sprawled on the floor, motionless.
- "It's a pity you're not Santa Claus." I exclaimed, hovering over him.
- Slowly, I dragged the body down the stairs to the basement.
- "What's the commotion about?" Two figures peeked out of the dissection room's door frame. It was Bennett and a co-worker of his. Florence.
- "You bought friends! Why didn't you say earlier?" Ever since he found a new bright-yellow hazmat suit and was no longer called "B12". Bennett was constantly in a great mood.
- There were barely any signs of the moody person he used to be.
- "Mind helping me a bit?" I smiled, sweating.
- "Sure. What do you want to do with this? Dissecting? Researching? Eating, perhaps?" Bennett asked mischieviously.
- "No, no! I want to become friends."
- "How do you plant to do that?" Florence gave me a worried look.
- I looked at the ceiling, as if the answers were there. "Make him sign a contract, maybe?"
- Perhaps, I was a mischievious child after all.
How I Met Bennet and Huxley[]
Red Book
- There was a small, rhythmic knocking at first. Knock, knock. Knock, knock, knock.
- Knock, knock. Knock, knock, knock.
- Repeating over and over again.
- I knew I shouldn't open the door.
- Mother told me not to do so, no matter what.
- Good children don't disobey their parents.
- Knock, knock.
- When I was scared of the unknown, I crawled under the bed to hide beside the monsters beneath it.
- I felt safe among them.
- As time passed, the knocking got louder, and louder, and louder, until I couldn't bear it anymore.
- I was adamant on staying under the bed until morning comes.
- Then, I head the door opening with a "click" sound.
- Someone came in.
- My room had no locks, so I ran to the bathroom. However, I was too slow.
- A figure in a hazmat suit covered my mouth, another hand curled around me in an iron hold.
- "Shhhh," the intruder whispered. "Don't make a sound."
- Another figure had a mask on - the one plague doctors from horror movies would wear.
- He spoke like a doctor. In an undersstanding, polite voice.
- "We are sorry to interrupt you, but I am afraid we have no place to go in this cold, and the other households we've turned to expressed quite an inadequate reaction to our humble plea for shelter.
- After being turned down so many times, we've figured we'd force our way in. You see, we're so very tired."
- "Do you live alone?" the person in hazmat suit asked in a harsh tone, hissing at me.
- "No," was my simple answer, in a voice hoarse from fear.
- I thought of Umbrella Man and his quiet presence in the room, and how good would it be if he appeared sooner.
- He was nothing like these violent strangers.
- "Hmm...alright. Are you good at keeping secrets, little one? the doctor asked.
- "Mhm," the only option I had was to nod in approval.
- "Great! Bennett, dear, if you would be so kind - do release the child. She is no threat."
- "You're too trusting." the other grumbled.
- "Am I? Ha-ha-ha!" the taller person let out a loud laugh, sending shivers down my spine.
- "You see, I am a doctor." he continued. Figures.
- "However, my stay in this place is highly confidential, so I wouldn't like anyone on our tail. Please do respect that, and keep our stay here a secret."
- "If you don't, I'll kill your parents." Bennett said in a casual tone, as if it wasn't a threat.
- "Father doesn't come home these days." I replied, saddened by the fact.
- "...Sorry. Just your mother then."
- "That settles it!, the doctor beamed. Now, now, little one, accompany us to the bathroom! For I am so awfully hungry I could eat a human."
- The smaller man elbowed him. "Ouch! Sorry, sorry, that was a joke. A bad one." the doctor quickly backtracked.
- In the morning I found the two peacefully /sleeping in the bathtub, having eaten all of the soap and shampoo on the shelves.
- The next day they'd settled in the basement, and a week later I was doing all kind of errands for their research-collecting bugs, buying a years' supply of soap with the funds in my money jar, and helped carrying out the bags with unknown contents on a daily basis.
- Of course, I made sure mom never-ever went to the basement at night.
- Umbrella Man appeared weeks later, only to pat my forehead and reassure me that he'd keep an eye on them.
Memory of a Yellow Ribbon[]
"The Day I Got A Yellow Ribbon"
- "It was on my 8th birthday.
- Umbrella Man stood in the darkest corner of the room, blending with the shadows.
- He stepped out of it only when everybody else left.
- He extended his gloved hand to me. In it was... a present.
- A yellow ribbon.
- "For your birthday present, I bought this ribbon."
- "We are born colorless." he said, tying it around my collar. "It's the people we meet who give us color."
- "Wear it as a memento of our alliance, will you?"
- Memory End
"A Memory of My First Dress"
- "Back in the day, I've had a shortly cut hair and dressed in a way that one wouldn't call girly.
- When Aiden awoke after dr Huxley's treatment, he was Krampus no more.
- He took up a number of new hobbies - cooking, cleaning, drawing - sewing among that.
- He took particular interest in making dresses, and invited me to try on one.
- "It's wonderful", I complimented him wholeheartedly.
- "I don't think I'm cut out for dresses, Aiden."
- "Why so?" he asked, genuinely curious. "What I see before me is a fair young lady."
- "You should let your hair grow", he added, smiling. "You'll make a wonderful lady when you grow up."
- Memory End
Memory of Graveyard[]
It's a memory of Bennett
- "It was raining that day. As usual, we were running errands with Bennett and other workers.
- We were instructed to gather fresh bodies from the local graveyard by Huxley.
- We were the smallest of the group, and carrying a single plastic bag weighing around 60kg had us sweating and groaning all the time.
- Bennett went on rambling about the shows he saw on TV as we dragged the cadaver down the hill.
- He couldn't read quite well yet, but excelled in spoken language - so watching television became a hobby of his.
- He found excitement in analyzing the characters to their very core and discussing all the possible plot scenarios, and I happily engaged in these conversations.
- It was one of the rare bonding experiences I've ever had."
