Frei is a main character in Hello Charlotte Episode Two, and appears briefly in Heaven's Gate. He is one of the forms of the Oracle from the TV World that Charlotte Wiltshire merged with in Hello Charlotte Episode One.
Appearance[]
Oracle Frei looks almost identical to Librarian Frei due to the fact he is based on Charlotte's memory of Librarian Frei. He has short black hair, with two slightly longer tails on each side of his face. Frei also has four eyes, 2 on each side, with each one having black sclera and white pupils.
He wears a button up, high-collared, white shirt with a v-necked black mantle that covers his sleeves over it. This mantle is often used to create an artistic kind of smoke effect in the art, making Frei look more inhuman and mythical. Frei's sleeves have white ends to them.
Personality[]
Frei's personality can vary wildly, as he is a product of Charlotte's thoughts and feelings. On one hand, he can seem very aggressive and chiding with Charlotte, but on the other hand, he regularly tries to make jokes and appeal to Charlotte. He takes on an 'alien' perspective of human society and emotions, and regularly poses ideas to philosphical questions such as, "What is love?" Frei also takes a heavy interest in Charlotte, reminding her that he will always be there for her no matter what kinds of decisions she makes.
Story[]
Hello Charlotte 2[]
Frei first appears on Day 1 after Charlotte has fallen asleep in her Dreamscape. In the first moments of his appearance, he has trouble speaking and assuming a concrete form, but eventually settles into a Frei form. He tells Charlotte that despite her initial bravado, she is still subconsciouslly afraid of the Oracle she merged with, so he took a masculine form. He also refers to himself as a singular being, rather than a group, in order to make it easier for Charlotte. Frei tells Charlotte to call him Frei, and also tells her that she is dreaming.
Eventually, their conversation moves on to the suicide of Scarlett Eyler, which had occurred earlier that day. He asks if the two were friends, or even acquantainces, and wonders why Charlotte is sad if they didn't know each other. He tells Charlotte that her concept of human empathy does not make sense, and is hypocritical in that it only applies to humans when he compares Scarlett to an animal in a slaughterhouse. When Charlotte asks him how he would understand sadness when all Pythias were connected, he replies did she really think it was always like that, and that all Pythias gave up the egos willingly, and that he would love to talk more, but she has to wake up.
After talking to Umbrella Man, Charlotte falls asleep again and sees Frei in the dreamscape. Charlotte tells Frei that she doesn't feel like talking, and he tells her a bedtime story and convinces her to sit next to him after she tells him she's not entirely comfortable with him. He tells her about The Tale of the Ink and Paper Princess, and how it was a psychology test in the pre-Oracle era. He also gives Charlotte his own ending to the tale, one where the Paper and Ink princess become indistinguishable from each other. After Charlotte falls asleep, she addresses Seth directly. He tells you that you aren't supposed to exist in this world, and that Charlotte is an unreliable narrator.
The next night, when Charlotte falls asleep, she realizes that Frei has converted their dreamscape into a Mind Library. He tells her that each memory is a story that one retells to themself, and that once they're gone, "you're no longer the person you used to be." He then offers Charlotte two memory journals for Charlotte and in turn, the Puppeteer, to read. One is about how Charlotte met Aiden, and the other is about how Charlotte met Bennett and Huxley. After reading these memory journals, Frei tells Charlotte about the story he is reading if she allows him to join him in reading. It is the tale of Hades and Persephone, and he compares the way Persephone goes to the Underworld for half the year to how Charlotte sees Frei when she goes to sleep.
Frei appears again during the day after Charlotte is attacked by the oddities when she is locked in the Locker Room in the Mirror World. He notes that Charlotte is completely awake, and states that they are in a warped reality bubble and that the universe is expanding. He mentions that "going through the looking glass" is a classic symbol of dissasociating from reality.
When Charlotte and Frei investigate the second memory mirror, Individuality, he comments on how this is the boy that Charlotte modelled him after. He also says that he has almost no memories from before waking up in Charlotte's mind, and that that is why she can trust him. When they view the third mirror, Decomposition, Frei suggests to Charlotte that Felix may have started distancing himself from Charlotte due to fear. After all, Charlotte became a lump of meat before his very eyes. Charlotte is upset at this suggestion, saying that Felix isn't a coward. Frei concedes slightly, and says that Felix may not be sure if Charlotte is really Charlootte anymore.
Frei and Charlotte talk again when Charlotte falls asleep that night, and they play piano together. Charlotte asks Frei why the Paper Princess would let herself get covered in ink, asking if it was toxic. Frei confirms that it was toxic, and that she allowed herself to be covered in ink because of love. Saying that "to love is to sacrifice your ego in order for two to become one." He says that love is the ultimate death of ego, and that you can't calim to know love unless you're willing to give up your ego for someone else's sake. Frei says that he finds the concept of loss of individuality fascinating, as it requires the greatest sacrifice for an individual before it is time for Charlotte to wake up.
The next time Frei appears is when Charlotte encounters the dead magcats in the Garden. Charlotte becomes distressed, and Frei tries to comfort her. He tries to tell her that nobody was responsible for what happened to them, but Charlotte wants to try and save them. She asks him to do something, since he was the Oracle. However, Frei informs Charlotte that everything that defined him as the Oracle has perished, including his powers and memories. It is Charlotte who defines him, although it greatly exhausts her. Using his energy would kill her. Frei tells Charlotte that as long as she rejects him, they will eventually drain each other and die, but if they were to merge, they would gain great power. He asks Charlotte if she is willing to give up her "ego for the sake of someone, or die an individual." Frei then says that they should give the magcats a proper burial.

Frei being strangled by Charlotte
If Charlotte refuses C's offer to escape the School, Frei appears to her and laughs at her. He says that she's not being honest, and is acting so high and mighty despite acting in her own self interests. Frei wants Charlotte to admit that she's afraid to die, and chides Charlotte with the information that nobody would be there for her after she dies. That Seth would leave her once there is nothing entertaining about Charlotte anymore. Charlotte leaps forward to strangle Frei after he says that she should've let C die. Frei calls Charlotte the cruel one, and tells her that he just wants her to open her eyes to the truth.
Even though Charlotte doesn't want to go to sleep that night, she eventually has to. Frei tries to make up with Charlotte, and states that he cleaned up her mind of the fog that Charlotte has reportedly lamented over in her memory journals. He embraces her, and says that she will soon realize that the world is not worth staying in.
When Charlotte is bullied on the rooftop, Frei appears to her again. He tells her that she should call for help, and that she has been manipulated by everyone because of her desire for love. He chides her furhter for her inability to be honest, and how her "friends" aren't there for her when she needs them the most. Frei eventually comforts Charlotte, saying that he will never abandon her even if everyone abandons her.
The final dream sequence occurs during the night before the Trial, where the Mind Library is lying in shambles. Frei notes the fact that Charlotte has accepted Frei into her mind and that they could get no closer. He offers two memory journals to Charlotte, the Memory of a Yellow Ribbon and the Memory of a Graveyard.
- If Charlotte chooses the Memory of a Yellow Ribbon: Frei notes that this is a memory of the Umbrella Man, says it is rather short and that he will read Charlotte two memories as a result. The second memory is "A Memory of My First Dress."
- If Charlotte chooses the Memory of a Graveyard: Frei notes that this is a memory of Bennett, and reads it to Charlotte. Afterwards, he asks Charlotte about the dreams she had before Frei appeared. Charlotte talks about the dreams she used to have of her Mother dying, and Charlotte being unable to do anything because she was not told to do anything. Despite the tragedy of these dreams however, Charlotte felt vaguely comforted by them. Frei calls her dependent, and calls her pitiful. Frei wants continue their conversation, but tells Charlotte to rest due to the coming Trial.
Black Ending[]
Charlotte is taken to the Smile Room, and Frei appears to her once more. Frei begins to decompose, as it was Charlotte who kept him alive. He tries to comfort her again, saying that he'll be with her until the very end, and says that he will not let them have their way with her body and mind. Frei says good night to Charlotte, calling her "my princess," and they die together.
Grey Ending[]
Charlotte goes to the Smile Room in order to try and rescue C from the Smile Room. Frei is the one who figures out that something is wrong, and that the body of C is no longer a person, rather a lump of meat. He and Charlotte then merge in Charlotte's grief, and end up consuming the world together.
White Ending[]
Charlotte and C are taken to the Smile Room, but Charlotte tells Frei that she wants to save everyone from themselves. Frei understands Charlotte, saying that he knew this would happen. He criticizes Charlotte for loving those who haven't been able to care for her like he has, and how that even though he was always there for her she ended up choosing them over Frei. He says that they are truly pitiful, and tells Charlotte to consume him whole and repaint the world in her colors.
Hello Charlotte 3[]
Frei only appears in the end of Hello Charlotte Episode Three in the ending where Q84 chooses to switch the channel and ignore their problems. He appears to a glitched form of Charlotte while being in a glitched form himself. He tells Charlotte that is time to go stargazing, and that everything will be real. He tells her that they will "leave this story together," and appears faceless, taking up the whole screen.
Frei is also revealed to be a remnant of O91, a Charlotte unit who desperately wanted to keep Charlotte Wiltshire alive, which then led to Scarlett's soul data being saved in a television set on 11F of the House.
Heaven's Gate[]
Frei and Charlotte have a small part to play in Heaven's Gate, and appear in the Interlude: Alone. Charlotte is doing someone else's homework, and Frei chastises her for being manipulated by a supposed "friend." He once again chastises people for not being honest, but instead of her not being honest, it is the nameless "friend." He also comments on the fact that the viewers would understand this nameless character if they were the main character. Frei says that despite the fact Charlotte never feels like shes' doing enough, but he knows that she's always doing her best.
