The Gyges Umbrella is an Artefact used in Mr. Rainer's Solve-It Service.
General[]
The Gyges Umbrella is an Artefact given from EINAR to ÜLAR. It is used by ÜLAR to render himself invisible after he loses ERIK. EINAR offers it to ÜLAR for nothing but his sincere gratitude. ÜLAR uses it while he waits for someone to pass by the warp points that he lost ERIK at. It is a very important Artefact, whose use determines the outcome of the game.
Once he sees a boy approaching, he has the option to either use his umbrella to remain invisible and follow anonymously or to approach the boy himself. If he approaches the boy, named AIK, he exchanges his Gyges Umbrella for information on where ERIK went. Through this, he finds out that ERIK was picked up by those he was delivering it to. Satisfied, he goes back to RENE and goes through the An Ode to Ephemerality route.
Should he remain hidden, ÜLAR sees AIK get kidnapped by GUNNAR. He ends up dropping his umbrella in order to rescue AIK, and it is never seen again as he proceeds on the A Bouquet for all Hjöriankind route.

Appearance[]
The Gyges Umbrella appears as a standard black umbrella with a straight stick when closed. When opened, the umbrella has a reversed appearance to the standard umbrella, with it having a sort of bucket effect. It would not be effective for actual rain due to this structure.
Trivia[]
- The Gyges Umbrella appears to be based off of the Ring of Gyges, a mystical ring that appears in a story Plato wrote for his book, Republic. This ring grants its user the power of invisibility. Plato himself uses the story of the Ring of Gyges to illustrate that people are willing to do anything to satisfy their needs when given true anonymity.
