Hello Charlotte Episode 1: Junk Foods, Gods, and Teddy Bears is the first game in the main Hello Charlotte Series. It is also the first game created by etherane.
Summary[]
Charlotte is a 12 year old girl who lives in the House with many curious characters, such as Dr. Huxley, the alien surgeon, or Aiden the horned clothesmaker. She is told to watch over Huxley's young nephew, Felix, and they eventually go on an adventure together. Travelling through a Bear Mansion, a TV World, and a Slaughterland, Charlotte does her best to watch over Felix and get home safely.
Story[]
The following may serve as a walkthrough of sorts, but beware of spoilers.
The game starts off with a monologue, presumably by Charlotte. It explains that the speaker's world met its end long ago, and asks the player to join the speaker in dream-seeing.
Charlotte is seen in a plain white room, where the Puppeteer inputs "Hello, Charlotte!" Charlotte asks the Puppeteer to take care of her, wakes up in her room hungry, and says that she should go find food. She goes to the Dining Room where a note from her mother gives Charlotte the number necessary to call for a food delivery, Charlotte will also take notice that the note is 8 months old. Investigating this room allows Charlotte to find some soap and reveal that the last time she tried to cook, it nearly ended in disaster. Charlotte also mentions a Bennett that put chemicals with the sugar and salt.
Going the Library and using the phone allows Charlotte to call Charlie's Junk Foods and make her order of Eco-friendly Chicken Nuggets and an Insta-Diabetes Soda. She comments on the fact she is so nervous despite talking to a machine. In order to exit the Library into the Attic, Charlotte must input the phrase "Please" when interacting with the door.
In the Attic, Charlotte will hear a chirping noise behind the door. If she chooses to open the door, a cockroach will deliver her Lucky Meal to her and leave. If she decides to wait for the delivery man to leave, the food will be left outside of the door.
Returning to the Dining Room and eating her Lucky Meal causes Aiden, Dr. Huxley, and Bennett to enter to comment on her food. Charlotte will ask Aiden why the door to the ground floor corridor no longer opens, and while he tells her there is nothing to worry about, Bennett tells her that something interesting will happen if she checks it at night. Bennett leaves to go watch soap operas in the TV Room, and Huxley asks Charlotte for a favor.

Charlotte trying on the jellyfish dress
On her way to the Dissection Room, Charlotte can go visit Aiden. He will asks her to try on his White Spotted Jellyfish Dress, and tells her that he will give it to her when it is complete. She also encounters a mysterious box that says "OPEN ME" outside of Aiden's Room, which will result in the Sudden End: Destroyed the World in Less Than a Second.
Talking to Huxley in the Dissection Room causes him to ask Charlotte to take care of his nephew, Felix. He notes that Felix has no sense of direction and a bad attitude, and tells Felix to go play with Charlotte so that he can continue his work. Charlotte and Felix can explore various areas of the House with their new task of killing time, and various User Logs give hints to Charlotte's past. Bennett can also be found in the TV Room, emotionally damaged after the latest episode of the drama he was watching. Eventually, Charlotte will go to her bed, resulting in Felix leaving.
Upon waking up, Charlotte notices that Felix is gone and decides to look for him. The bottom-left room in the Corridor is now open, and is called the ??? Room. A giant TV is in the center of this room, which Charlotte enters, transporting her into the Bear Channel.
In order to continue on, Charlotte must pull the rope in the right room, and outrun the teddy bear to the left room in order to pull the rope there. Being caught by the teddy bear will result in the Bad End: Little Teddy Wants to Play. Successfully completing this task allows Charlotte to go through the small hole in the right room that leads to a kitchen. A Back Door Key allows her to go into an area where Bunny Freya resides.
The Bunny Pythia refuses to talk to Charlotte as she does not talk to strangers, and Charlotte finds a Rabbit Toy and gives it to Freya. The Pythia now talks to Charlotte, but is offended when Charlotte comments on the fact that she must be lonely. The door unlocks, and Charlotte can continue onwards.
Charlotte encounters an area with four rooms, each one with its own "puzzle". The Cat Room contains two cats who tell Charlotte to drink from the left and right cups of tea, and the bookshelf tells her to go through the right fireplace. If she enters the left fireplace after drinking the cup of tea on the right, she is able to go through unharmed and obtain a Ring. Drinking from the wrong cup of tea or entering the wrong fireplace results in the Bad End: Burned to Death.
In the Bear Room, Charlotte finds the 25th Edition of Sci-Fi Almanac and asks Seth to let her take it. Not taking the almanac, but taking the Bronze Key will result in the Bad End: Little Teddy Wants to Play. If Charlotte gets the book, she and Seth will high five in delight and throw the book at the bear when it attacks.
Using the Ring allows Charlotte to enter the Goldilocks area, in which three rooms each with three types of porridge, chairs, and beds tempt Charlotte to the play the role of a Goldilocks character who recklessly tries things until what is "just right" is found. The bookshelves contain the story of the Three Bears, and also give a hint that Charlotte should escape through the window. In order to exit this area, Charlotte must find the Silver Key in the Chairs Room and enter all the rooms without using any of the bear's items, and then leave through the window. Using the bear's items will result in the Bad End: You've Been a Bad, Bad Girl.

Charlotte looking in the mirror
The Mirror Room contains a mirror, as well as various bookshelves. Using the mirror while the light is off will cause an image of an eyeless Charlotte to to appear, however, using the mirror while the light is one will cause a door to appear which requires the Silver Key to open. This door leads to a glitched dungeon area. Once she leaves, she is captured by bears and is asked where she should await punishment. Choosing any room but the Torture Room will result in Charlotte's death.
A TV set in the Torture Room leads to the TV Hall, where Seth will notify Charlotte of the fact that he is no longer able to access the rewind menu. Entering the next available TV takes Charlotte to the first Silent Film Channel. Here, she finds Felix immediately. Felix hasn't encountered the bears, and has just arrived in the Silent Film Channel in a stark contrast to Charlotte's journey. This area is also known as the Monochrome Channel due to the fact there are only grayscale colors. He tells her that he is searching for an Oracle that has taken a physical form in the dimension, and that such a rare occurrence happens "once in millenniums." Felix describes that an Oracle is like a god, and is capable of creating small universes.
Various boxes can be found throughout this channel, with one of them triggering the Bad End: Funny Joke. Others making the drones that roam the library deadly, while others still can contain an Azure Ribbon or Doodles.
Charlotte and Felix go through a door labeled, "Hall of Ignorance," where multiple clues for the locked door can be found. In addition, some books describe the story of the Tiny God. One book labelled "Don't Read," can be found in this hall, which kills Charlotte if read, causing the Bad End: Don't Read. After finding all four clues, Charlotte and Felix can open the locked door which leads to a room full of boxes. The box that does not float up and down contains a Door Knob, which is used in order to open the central door.
After using the Door Knob, Charlotte and Felix enter a long hallway with an eye poster in the front, using the poster in tandem with the eyes seen in the hallway for the final code. Felix decides to input this code, as Charlotte wasn't able to memorize it. Felix is immediately beheaded upon opening the door. Charlotte is shocked and horrified by Felix's death while Librarian Frei enters the room, who suggests that she change the channel in order to find a world where Felix didn't die. Frei also warns her of the Executioners, saying that they will not be as kind to her as he was.
Following Frei's instructions, Charlotte changes the channel and enters the Silent Film channel for a second time. She finds Felix in the room formerly called the "Hall of Ignorance" now called the "Hall of Knowledge", and cries upon seeing him. The Tale of the Ink Princess can now be found in various books throughout the Library, as can Librarian Frei. This Frei does not remember talking to Charlotte, and it is implied that he may be a former version of the Frei seen after Felix is killed. He notes that his library is the last in the world, and that he is setting up a security system that will lure you in like an RPG game.
Charlotte opens the door with the puzzle using the previous answers, and lifts up the box to find the Door Knob. It is also worth noting that none of the optional boxes contain anything. Felix and Charlotte go to the final door, where Charlotte stops Felix from entering the code and confesses that she switched the channel to save Felix. The door does nothing when opened, and Charlotte and Felix move on towards the Surreal Channel.
A door towards the top leads to the Space of Happiness, where Oculus mobs roam and guard a door. Charlotte must avoid these mobs, as they will kill her upon contact. After going through the door in the Space of Happiness, Charlotte and Felix encounter multiple Flower Ladies who tell lies, and one who tells the truth. They all ask for a certain color of box for Charlotte to obtain in the Space of Abundance, with all the ones who lie asking for a different color of box every time they are interacted with. The truthful Violet asks Charlotte to find the Red Box.
In the Space of Abundance, Charlotte will be able to take 5 different boxes that are surrounded by Steak Mobs. If she takes the wrong box, the Bad End: Lying Flowers occurs. Charlotte takes the Red Box, obtains the Shiny Brooch, and runs out of the room as the Steaks chase after her and Felix. Charlotte brings Shiny Brooch to the Violet Flower Lady, who gives her a Fancy Brooch in exchange. Felix suggests that they use the pin attached to it for the door that says "STICK A NEEDLE IN THE EYE". When it is used, the Fancy Brooch turns into the Bloody Pin.
From here, an optional quest is activated. Charlotte can choose to go into the Space of Gore and talk to Ms. Poppy, who was previously unresponsive due to her intense fear of pomegranates. She asks Charlotte and Felix to help her get away from the pomegranates, and Felix laughs at her irrational fear. They escort Ms. Poppy to the Space of Happiness, back to the Flower Room. Ms. Poppy gives the two Eye Drops which can be used in place of the Bloody Pin. Using these causes the next door to say "-.-- --- ..-/.- .-. ./-.- .. -. -.. .-.-.-/- .... . .-. . ..-. --- .-. . --..--/ -.-- --- ..-/ -- .- -.--/ .--. .- ... ... .-.-.-" when passed through, which translates to "YOU ARE KIND. THEREFORE, YOU MAY PASS."
An Incinerator Room is found in the area after the eye door, which contains instructions to dispose of a friend unit to pass through. The main area here though, is the Maze. The Maze contains a button which either Felix or Charlotte must step on in order to allow the other to explore the Maze. If it is chosen for Charlotte to stay, Seth strongly protests against her decision, but can be convinced.
If Felix stays: Felix gives Charlotte Scissors so that she can stay safe, but Charlotte notes that it is likely Seth will make her get rid of them at the first opportunity. She travels through the Maze, avoiding to the Oculus Mobs that roam the labyrinth, and comes across a room with a tic-tac-toe puzzle. She must avoid the X's, and finds the Space of Absurdity. After going through a few doors, she tires of wasting her time and decides to go back and check on Felix.
He is missing when she returns to the Maze entrance, and the previously closed black door now has a smear of blood at its entrance. When Charlotte enters, she finds White Freya holding Felix's intestines to her horror. Freya asks Charlotte why she's sad, and Seth tells Charlotte she needs to run away and abandon Felix, saying that he isn't even a person. Freya asks Charlotte to play hide-and-seek, and Charlotte realizes that there's no escaping from White Freya. She begs Seth to kill her before Freya does, and uses the scissors that Felix gave her to kill herself.
Umbrella Man's Afternoon Tea Time is triggered after this, which features Seth and Umbrella Man talking in a plain white room. Umbrella Man chastises Seth for doing poorly in his job, and Seth asks Umbrella Man to give him another chance. Umbrella Man complies, saying that death itself can be amusing. Charlotte and Felix re-enter the Maze again, as if nothing had happened, and Charlotte will stay behind.
If Charlotte stays: Charlotte tells Felix not to worry, as Seth will be going with him. Seth will protest if this is their first time in the Maze, and will agree if it is the second time. Felix gives Charlotte the Scissors as a precaution, and travels onwards. As he goes through the door leading to the Space of Absurdity, Seth will go check on Charlotte. A Mysterious Man approaches Charlotte, telling her that she will meet her in death in 10 minutes, with Felix dying shortly after. He whispers something to her, and she agrees in order to save Felix.

The mysterious man talks to Charlotte
Felix travels through the Space of Absurdity, and gets annoyed from wasting his time. Seth goes back to Charlotte, who now has yellow eyes and is being possessed by the Mysterious Man. He calls the human body fragile, and finds the scissors. When Freya approaches, he kills her with the scissors using Charlotte's body, and Charlotte returns to her body covered in blood over Freya's dead body.
Charlotte is no longer where Felix left her when he returns, and the white door leading to the Incinerator Room now has a bloodstain at its entrance. He finds Charlotte covered in blood, stuffing a body into the incinerator. She tells him that it's merely meat chunks, and that he shouldn't worry as the blood isn't her own. As he worries over her, he offers her his hand. They go through another TV into the TV Hall.
Charlotte asks for more information on Oracles. Felix tells her that Pythias were created by an Oracle, who was known as a "God," and are incredibly powerful. He also mentions that the last time he had been in the TV World, there were more Pythias and it wasn't such a mess.
They walk into a TV and enter the Slaughterland. Upon entering, they find that it is littered with the bodies of dead Pythias and is flooded with blood. Throughout the area, many propaganda posters created by the created by Individualists and Globalists are seen. In addition, numerous weapons are seen throughout this area.
Slaughterhouse-6, the only slaughterhouse with no windows, contains numerous Executioners who will swarm Charlotte and Felix if they do not have an Executioner Mask. Charlotte goes to Slaughterhouse-4, and uses the code "4981" to get to a room containing numerous Executioner Masks. She and Felix both put on masks, and Charlotte notes that it looks "rather menacing" on Felix.
Now able to enter Slaughterhouse-6 without being killed, they find a room with the "837529" Note. They use this code for Slaughterhouse-4. Charlotte and Felix encounter a room containing a mural of a young Pythian Priestess, and it is here that Felix mentions that Oracles have neither physical form nor gender.
In another room, numerous Pythia corpses are seen strewn about. One is barely alive, and the Oracle is within its body. They ask Charlotte and Felix to kill them quickly, thinking that the two are Executioners due to the masks they wear. They take off their masks, and the Oracle recognizes Charlotte as a Traveler. They also state that they knew Charlotte's parent once. The Oracle asks the two to leave quickly, and implies that they will meet again if Charlotte seeks them out.
Another large TV is seen, and the party steps through it to enter the TV Hall once again. The last TV in the hall is made available, and Charlotte feels that it will be the last channel they visit. Felix apologizes for running away to the TV World, and feels that his journey was incredibly meaningless. He asks Charlotte to laugh at him, but Charlotte tells him that everything is meaningless regardless and enjoys being like his friend. Felix laughs and reassures her of the fact that they are friends, and they go into the final channel.
The final channel is composed of one room filled with numerous TVs, with one enormous TV in the center of the room from which the Oracle can be seen. They asks Charlotte and Felix if they enjoyed the "show." They speak of how infinite channels used to exist, now mere recordings, and laments the fact that their children turned against one another. Despite their sins, the Oracle forgives all of the Pythias.

Charlotte and the Oracle merging together
The Oracle informs Charlotte of the fact that the world is dying, and that they would be caught in it if they are unable to escape. The Oracle offers Charlotte a way, and the Puppeteer is unable to make a decision due to an "<input error>" message. Charlotte agrees, puts her hands on the screen, and merges with the Oracle. They say goodnight to the dying world as the channels switch off one by one.
Charlotte reappears in her home talking to Umbrella Man about her adventure. He takes off his mask, and Charlotte notes that he is using the vessel of her father to talk to her. Charlotte vaguely remembers committing an "unimaginable sin", but Umbrella Man reassures her that they edited her source code so that she wouldn't fail her Education Program. He is amazed that she was able to contain the Oracle within her body without dying, and gives Charlotte some Pills to take before going to sleep.
After taking these Pills, Charlotte sees the House in a new light. It now looks like a traditional house, with its black-and-white minimalist color scheme gone. Charlotte can pick up a Rabbit Toy, which causes Felix to join the party, hinting that he was actually a mere rabbit toy all along. In addition, the Magcat is merely a normal cat. Charlotte goes to sleep after saying goodnight to all of her friends.

Trivia[]
- "The game's first to-be title was "Defender Charlotte", then changed to "Charlotte's Freak show", only to become "Hello Charlotte" after [etherane] decided on the plot. It literally went from delusive magical girl show to a religious x-files tale."
- EP 1 was originally titled "Junk Foods, Eyes, and Teddy Bears."
- EP 1 has been described as a prologue, with its genre being RPG horror.
- There is a box in the Silent Film Channel that leads to the BAD END: Funny Joke. Switching the channel and interacting with the same box will show a dead Charlotte sprite.
Cut Content[]
In the Art Pack, etherane explains that Hello Charlotte was originally meant to end at the Bear level, and many other characters were not going to be as present. Charlotte's eyes were initially black, while Felix had gray eyes with X's for pupils. Felix was also meant to have a rabbit theme which was greatly toned done in the final cut, he also got taller.
The game was meant to end when Charlotte went into the TV and had to save Felix in the Court of Bears. Since the bear's existence was to be centered around the motto "EYE FOR AN EYE", Charlotte had to give up one of her eyes to save Felix. The game would've ended when Felix gave his eye to her, showing how they became friends. The two would also have only interacted during the exploration bit in the beginning of the final cut.
In addition, hints of three additional endings can be found within the game files. With three end card CGs saying endings that were never seen in the final cut.
- WORST END: Let's All Kill Charlotte
- GOOD END: Deus Ex Machina
- TRUE END: Good Night Charlotte
Other cut content includes:
- Unused Machine Gun item that which likely would've been used in the Surreal Channel where the actual Machine Gun is seen.
- Unused sprites of White Freya depicting her with black hair and her meat cloak is black rather than pink.
- Unused portraits of Librarian Frei where he has much more hair.
- The orb monsters that appear in the Surreal Channel have unused dialogue sheet, implying that one of these creatures may have been an NPC in a draft of the game.
- The spritesheets of the orb-eye monsters are called "Eyeball" or "Oculus", though these names do not show up in the actual game.
