The Trial is a key event that occurs in Hello Charlotte Episode Two and Hello Charlotte Episode Three.

General[]

The idea of the Trial is introduced on Day 1 when Charlotte goes to her lesson. The Teacher explains that the Trial is meant to "provide help to [their] students". During the Trial, students and teachers vote to find a Defective student, and a Defective student is one with no votes "who'll amount to nothing if not provided help."

Three of the four endings in Hello Charlotte 2 are dependent on the choice of who Charlotte will vote for during the Trial.

The Trial in Hello Charlotte 3 is much more mysterious, and is referenced to in the regular countdowns to the Trial shown in each of Charles' memories. Charles' tulpa, Scarlett, is obsessed with the idea of the Trial and is determined to force Charles to pass it.

Story[]

Hello Charlotte 2[]

The first mention of the Trial is in Charlotte's first class, where her teacher's topic is "The TRIAL and SOUL CUBES." The Trials are meant to help the "Defective," those who supposedly have corrupted soul cubes that need debugging and reformatting. Usually one person, but in some cases two, will be chosen as "the Defective" through the Trial through a public vote among students and teachers alike. In order to prevent corruption, students at the School follow the rules.

In the Forest outside of the School, Charlotte and C discover bodies in pits that C says are the victims of the Trial. He also notes that after reprogramming one's Soul Cube after the Trial, they person becomes a Hollow Human who runs around completing tasks until they drop dead.

At the actual Trial, Charlotte is given the option to vote for Anri, vote for C, or to withdraw entirely. Each choice determines the ending of the story. Regardless of choice, whoever is determined to be the Defective is taken to the Smile Room to be reprogrammed and ends up a Hollow Human, devoid of soul data.
