The Umbrella Man is a mysterious character that is present throughout the Hello Charlotte series.
It is heavily implied that "Umbrella Man" is controlled by both Charles Eyler and "Father". Father will be the focus of this article, although Charles' actions as Umbrella Man will also be mentioned.
End of spoilers.
Appearance[]
Umbrella Man is only seen with a mask over his face for the first portion of Hello Charlotte 1. He wears a black suit, black tie, and white shirt. He also appears to be very tall. The animal mask worn over his face has deer antlers protruding out of it, and also appears to be a deer skull.
Without his mask, he has short black hair that is pulled back and yellow eyes. These yellow eyes are seen in every vessel that Umbrella Man possesses. He is personified by his aloof and animated nature, which comes through in his character sprites where he is often smirking or laughing. In Episode Three, his smirking nature is farther exaggerated with his sprite that turns black while his smile and eyes remain white. It is unknown if this appearance is meant to be taken literally or metaphorically.
Umbrella Man's child vessel has short, slightly wavy black hair, and wears a V-necked black sweater over a button-up white shirt.
It is implied in Hello Charlotte 3, when Umbrella Man talks to Scarlett in the Infirmary, that this form looks like Charles did when he was a kid.
End of spoilers.
The nurse vessel seen in Episode Two after Charlotte is bullied has long, wavy black hair. She wears a white lab coat over a white shirt. When Felix is possessed by Umbrella Man, he takes on a more joking body language and has yellow eyes.
Personality[]
Umbrella Man is incredibly cold and indifferent, but seems to care for Charlotte to some degree. He possesses bodies is order to contact Charlotte, and also tries to guide her throughout the story. His defining features are his yellow eyes and mischievous body language, and his favorite body to possess is that of Charlotte's father. He is still willing to possess others, such as the school nurse or the young boy vessel. Although he agreed not to possess any of the House tenants, he does break this promise once when he possesses Felix.
Umbrella Man is also aware of Seth and has some level of control over him, talking to him directly and interacting with him physically. He also is aware of you, the player, and regularly speaks directly to the Puppeteer.
In Episode 3, more of his true character is revealed. He often laughs off tragedies, such as Q84's death or the idea of breaking Scarlett's soul cube. Despite this, he does seem merciful to some degree, often wanting characters to be set free or continue their story, possibly due to his desire to keep the Puppeteer interested.

Story[]
Background[]
In the True Realm, Umbrella Man was known as Charles' Father, Seth. He left Lilith Eyler, and ended up telling her to abort her daughter, Scarlett Eyler. Despite this, he allows Charles to live. This action led Lilith Eyler to develop severe depression and an obsession with her unborn daughter, leading Charles to manifest a tulpa.
Umbrella Man was occasionally used by Charles, such as one instance where he gave Charlotte a yellow ribbon in order to differentiate her from the other Charlottes. He was also used by the Father entity Charles created which was not bound by the House rules, and was known as an imposter and an intruder. He displays more power than Mother does, and is fully aware of the nature of the stories within the House. The Umbrella Man also introduces Charlotte to her Puppeteer which is controlled by the player.

Hello Charlotte 1[]
The Umbrella Man is mentioned as an Observer in Charlotte's Book of Truth, and how he and Charlotte first met is noted on User Logs 005 and 006.
- User Log 005: He first appeared out of nowhere when Charlotte was a young child, always watching with "his yellow eyes from the darkest corner of the room, not uttering a single word." Once Charlotte defines him as "The Observer" he speaks for the first time. After conversing with Charlotte, she gives him the name "Umbrella Man."
- User Log 006: On Charlotte's 10th birthday, Umbrella Man visits Charlotte. At first she does not recognize him, but he eventually reveals himself to be the Umbrella Man. He informs Charlotte that a Puppeteer named Seth has been assigned to her.

The Umbrella Man and Charlotte having tea
At the very end of the game, he and Charlotte have a talk over tea about the adventures that took place during the game. He congratulates her for her achievement of meeting with the Oracle, but he is surprised that Charlotte is able to handle the Oracle's strength. Umbrella Man also notes that he does not want her to fail her Education program, which we see in the following game, and tells Charlotte to take her pills. After Charlotte takes her pills and leaves the room, he disappears.
Hello Charlotte 2[]
Umbrella Man first appears to Charlotte in his child vessel on Day 1 and knocks on her door, in an attempt to be polite. He tells her that she should've allowed C to die in the alleyway, as his existence threatens the world and dooms it to a BAD ENDING. He also notices that Charlotte looks much more unhealthy than usual, and tells her that she should ask Huxley for assistance. Charlotte notifies Umbrella Man of the fact that the Oracle has started to wake up which worries Umbrella Man, as her body would start to collapse under its weight. Briefly mentioning that Charlotte has decided to stop taking the pills, he leaves so that she can go back to sleep.
On Day 6 Umbrella Man is back to using his "Father" vessel and appears in Charlotte's room. He and Charlotte talk about the history of the Pythians. He mentions the war between the globalists and individualists, and the slow and painstaking process of having all of the Pythia's consciousness merge together. Umbrella Man feels as though the Pythians betrayal of the Oracle was incredibly selfish. Saying that it is better to worship something that doesn't exist, he leaves Charlotte so that she can sleep.
Umbrella Man possesses Felix while he and Charlotte are talking on Day 25. Charlotte gets upset with him, saying that he broke their agreement to not possess House tenants. Umbrella Man decides not to harm Felix, and tells Charlotte to choose who to vote for wisely during the Trial because she may "save a life."
On Day 31, Umbrella Man possesses a school nurse after Charlotte is tortured by bullies and brought to the Infirmary. He asks her how she feels now that the fog has lifted, and calls her "'miss Wiltshire,'" implying that she may not actually be Charlotte Wiltshire. He asks Charlotte to consider that Anri is not actually as nice as she appears, and laments that Charlotte will only listen if it's Eyler, accidentally referencing another timeline. Charlotte asks where people go after they die, and Umbrella Man explains that they become Stargazers and travel the world before dying. Before he leaves, he tells Charlotte to grab some scissors so that she can fix her hair before anyone sees her.
Grey Ending[]
C is voted as the only Defective in the Trial. Charlotte asks Umbrella Man to save him, thinking that C is his employer. Umbrella Man, in his young boy vessel, laughs at her, saying that the boy is nothing more than an ordinary human being. He tells her to look at him again, and she sees him as an empty person before seeing him in his true form as Vincent for the first and last time.
After Charlotte consumes the world in her grief, the Umbrella Man gives her a copy of C's soul that was not destroyed, which appears as a Soul Cube to Charlotte. Offering it to Charlotte, he tells her that if she opens the cube C will be allowed to become a Stargazer and continue his life cycle, essentially saving his soul. Charlotte tells the Umbrella Man that she wishes to rest, but also wants to help the other versions of herself that are struggling. She offers her name to the Umbrella Man in exchange for his help looking over them.
Umbrella Man also notes that she invented Observers and Puppeteers, and also had delusions of him talking to her Puppeteer. Charlotte laughs, realizing that she was his employer all along, and that everything was fated to occur as it did. She asks the Umbrella Man for his name, and he tells her it's "Charles."
This may or may not mean that it was actually Charles Eyler making the deal with her. It is possible, but we do know that Umbrella Man does not shy away from impersonating Charles.
End of spoilers.
White Ending[]

Going stargazing
Charlotte and C are voted as Defective in the Trial. Charlotte, desperate to save everyone she cares about, consumes the world's egos. After Umbrella Man tells her that she has consumed the soul data of everyone she asks him to kill her. Instead, Umbrella Man hugs her and tells her that he will teach her how to control her power as they stargaze across the world.
After this ending occurs, Umbrella Man will appear in the Epilogue to speak directly to the Puppeteer. He tells the player that they have committed the sin of worshipping false gods, and offers the Puppeteer a trade. Taking the Puppeteer's name for the mere possibility of seeing Charlotte's story end in another way. He informs the Puppeteer of the fact that they were never supposed to exist, and are merely just an imaginary friend invented by her, and that if the Puppeteer accepts his offer they will no longer be able to be perceived.
If the Puppeteer accepts the offer the Umbrella Man eats their name and calls the Puppeteer "anonymous." If the Puppeteer refuses the offer the Umbrella Man simply leaves.
Hello Charlotte 3[]
Before the game starts, the Umbrella Man greets the Puppeteer. He asks the Puppeteer why they are here, and remembers their contract. He tells the player he will do everything in his power to save Charlotte and that all the Puppeteer needs to do is watch the show.
In the Infirmary, Umbrella Man pretends to be Charles Eyler in order to manipulate Scarlett. He posesses the body of a young Charles, but his mannerisms and text color reveal him to be Umbrella Man to the player. The Umbrella Man tells her that she is no longer a tulpa and is now her own person. He also tells her that she might want to keep a journal on all of the hidden truths of their world, hinting at the fact that she eventually becomes Charlotte Wiltshire.
Umbrella Man convinces Scarlett to sabotage Q84's story by showing her memories to the audience, leading Scarlett to Linq with Q84. He tells Scarlett that this will force the audience to leave their story, forcing Charlotte to stop hurting others.
After Q84 dies in Charles' arms, Umbrella Man enters the White Society room calling himself "Father". He offers Charles the option of loading Q84's save files into a defective Charlotte vessel or a Vincent vessel. Umbrella Man leaves, saying that he has to entertain the audience.
Once the Prologue is complete, the player is asked if they would like to continue the story. If they choose "Yes", the Umbrella Man will note how eager they are. He will also note that the Charlotte in this story was not the Charlotte the Puppeteer contracted him to save, and asks them if they like Q84 or the original Charlotte Wiltshire more.
- If Q84 is more important: The Umbrella Man will be surprised that the Puppeteer likes Q84 more than the original Charlotte, and will continue on with the story.
- If "My Charlotte" is more important: The Umbrella is unsurprised at the Puppeteer's response and calls them loyal.
The Umbrella Man goes on to explain that this particular story was vital to understanding the rest of the story. Unfortunately for the Puppeteer, there is no way to rewind time in the House and change the outcomes of future stories, and the endless cycle of stories is continued within the House.
Umbrella Man appears towards the very end of the main game, entering the room holding Scarlett/Charlotte's soul data in a television. He reveals himself as Seth, the Father of their dysfunctional family. He informs Charles and Q84 that he has made a deal to save Scarlett Eyler, known as Charlotte Wiltshire, and that the TV box is now Scarlett Eyler's soul cube. Such a change occurred because O91 wanted to preserve Scarlett's soul no matter what, and that to free Scarlett Eyler would mean to break the box. Charles is outraged at such an offer, saying that Father would be killing her twice. Once in the True Realm and now again in the False Realm. He wonders if they can put her soul into another vessel, but Umbrella Man states that no human vessel could contain her. At the end of their argument, Umbrella Man leaves it up to the Puppeteer to decide.
HAPPY E&%NdD: Chihdj78UJlhood's E8&nd[]
The Puppeteer decides to change the channel, and the Umbrella Man is greatly disappointed in their selfishness. He leaves, knowing that the Puppeteer will eventually reload the game to see the other ending.
True Ending: Goodbye Charlotte[]
The Puppeteer decides to save Charlotte by freeing her from the TV box, and provides Charles and Q84 with a Hammer to destroy the Soul Cube with.
After the House is destroyed, the Umbrella Man speaks directly to the Puppeteer one last time. He congratulates the player for reaching the ending of the story, and hopes that they enjoyed the show. He apologizes for misleading the Puppeteer to make the story more interesting as his connection begins to fade. As his connectiong ets worse, his dialogue becomes more and more glitched as he prepares to leave "this hopeless world."
Charles also uses the Umbrella Man's vessel to talk to the player in the Epilogue, saying that the game didn't pack much fun gameplay.
